Rosuvastatin

Cholesterol

Also known as Crestor

Rosuvastatin is the potent, low-maintenance member of the statin family. Like the others it slows your liver's cholesterol production, but it's stronger milligram for milligram and hangs around in the body long enough that timing doesn't matter — morning, noon, or night all work. Grapefruit is also much less of an issue than with simvastatin.

How to take it

When

Once a day, any time — just keep it consistent so you don't forget.

Food

With or without food.

Avoid

Heavy drinking. Also tell your doctor if you take antacids containing aluminum or magnesium — space them a couple of hours apart.

How long

Long-term. Cholesterol control only works while you keep taking it.

Missed a dose?

Take it when you remember. If it's been more than 12 hours since your usual time, skip it and take the next dose on schedule. Never take two within 12 hours.
