Carvedilol
HeartAlso known as Coreg
Carvedilol is a beta blocker used for heart failure, high blood pressure, and after heart attacks. It blocks stress signals so your heart beats slower and gentler, giving it a chance to work without straining. Honest heads-up: you might feel more tired for the first few weeks before you feel better — that's normal, and it usually passes.
How to take it
When
Usually twice a day, about 12 hours apart, at the same times each day.
Food
Take it with food. That slows how fast it hits and helps prevent dizziness.
Avoid
Never stop suddenly — that can trigger chest pain or a heart attack. Doses are tapered down slowly.
Good to know
If you have diabetes, carvedilol can hide the racing heart that warns you your blood sugar is low. Check your sugar more often.
Missed a dose?
Take it as soon as you remember, unless it's almost time for your next dose — then skip the missed one. Never double up.
